A serious health scare has gripped Rajamahendravaram after four people died due to kidney-related complications, while four others remain in critical condition. The incident has triggered widespread concern, with suspicions pointing toward possible adulteration of milk supplied in the affected locality.

Two More Deaths Reported

The latest victims have been identified as N. Seshagiri Rao (72) and Radhakrishna Murthy (74), residents of Chowdeshwari Nagar in the Lalacheruvu area. They passed away in the early hours of Saturday while undergoing treatment.

Earlier, 76-year-old Bhagishetti Kanaka Ratnam and 75-year-old Thadi Krishnaveni had also succumbed. Most of the affected individuals are above 60 years of age, though cases reportedly include a five-month-old infant and a three-year-old child, raising further alarm.

14 Hospitalised With Similar Symptoms

Since mid-August, at least 14 residents from the Chowdeshwari Nagar area have been admitted to hospitals with symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal bloating, and inability to urinate — all indicative of severe kidney distress.

Authorities were alerted after four members of the same family fell ill simultaneously. The clustering of cases in a single locality has intensified suspicion of a common source of contamination.

Is Adulterated Milk the Cause?

Preliminary reports suggest that a single milk vendor supplied dairy products to many of the affected households. Some victims reportedly complained that the milk and curd tasted bitter on the day of Shivaratri.

Ganesh, a milk vendor from Korukonda mandal, has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. Milk samples have been sent for laboratory analysis, while blood and urine samples of the victims have been dispatched for toxicology testing.

Officials have clarified that lab reports are still awaited, and the exact cause of the sudden kidney failures remains under investigation.
