Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is set to introduce a new system called ‘Srivari Kudupu Patra’, enabling devotees to fulfill their vows through digital payments while preserving the traditional practice of submitting offerings into the temple hundi at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple.

What Is the ‘Srivari Kudupu Patra’?

The proposed system aims to modernize the centuries-old practice of offering donations after darshan while respecting devotees’ religious sentiments.

Under this system:

Devotees can make payments using UPI, credit cards, or debit cards.
Payment amounts may range from ₹100 to ₹1 lakh.
After completing the digital transaction, devotees will receive a bond/document (Kudupu Patra).
This document can be placed in the Srivari hundi outside the sanctum sanctorum, maintaining the symbolic act of offering.

Although the funds are directly credited to TTD’s accounts at the time of purchase, the physical submission of the document ensures continuity of tradition and faith.

Why Is TTD Introducing This System?

Tirumala receives approximately 2.5 crore devotees annually, making it one of the most visited pilgrimage centers in the world.

Key reasons behind the reform include:

Increasing preference for cashless transactions
Enhanced transparency and accounting efficiency
Streamlined donation management
Reduction in cash handling

The hundi remains TTD’s primary source of revenue. In 2025 alone, hundi collections reached ₹1,383 crore, highlighting the scale of devotional contributions.

Implementation & Approval

Special counters are expected to be established at key locations in Tirupati and Tirumala, especially near darshan and accommodation centers.
The proposal will be discussed at the upcoming TTD Governing Council meeting on the 28th.
Final approval will depend on board consensus and devotee feedback.

The initiative is part of TTD’s broader effort to balance technology adoption with spiritual tradition.
